Summers In Halifax

Most of us Canadians would agree that summer is the greatest season. There’s just so much to enjoy! But most importantly, the weather is perfect for just about anything. Halifax has an average July/August temperature of 25 degrees. Being a resident of this beautiful province, I can honestly say we have fantastic summers! Here’s a fun list of my favourite things in summer addition that, hopefully, you can enjoy as much as my family does.

Summer Sun (aka beach time)

Rainbow Haven Beach Provincial Park in Cow Bay near Cole Harbour is a lovely white-sand beach with a long boardwalk from the parking lot to the beach. Rainbow Haven is only a 30 – 40 minute drive from Halifax.
Crystal Crescent Beach consists of three gorgeous white sand beaches and a 10-kilometre loop trail along a diverse coastline. It’s also 40 minutes drive from Halifax!

Summer Eats

My Favourite Spots to eat in the summer are:

The Bicycle Thief – This relaxing and elegant restaurant offers delicious food, an inviting atmosphere, and an outdoor option that’s right on the Halifax harbour.

COWS – Just go here. You WON’T regret it. The smell of the waffle cones alone is mesmerizing! And their ice cream flavors can’t be beaten!

Summer Fun

The Halifax Waterfront Boardwalk – Not only does this harbour side walkway have great views, it often plays host to many of the city’s festivals. Kids will enjoy looking at the interesting ships, eating from the food carts, exploring the public art, and playing in the playgrounds (especially the giant wave).

Seaport Farmer’s Market – Located next to the Discovery Center, this indoor, seaside market is the oldest fresh grocer in Halifax. Founded in 1750, it moved to its current location in 2010. Depending on the time of year, you’ll find a variety of items, from seasonal fruits and vegetables to baked goods, wines, craft beers, homemade soaps, and jewelry.
