The trees have started to change colour, the air is crisper, which means spooky season is upon us. It’s full of kindness and fun where candy runneth over and lasts for weeks later. And even if you’re not into spooky you can see the joy at this time of year. Even though this season can have its scares –  it’s nothing compared to some of the house sale closing stresses I have seen throughout the years of being a trusted Realtor. Today, I’m going to give you my top 3 ways to avoid the nightmares that can happen just before closing if you don’t pay attention to your surroundings.

 

If we’ve learned anything from scary movies, we’ve learned to never go anywhere without your support team. You are always protected in numbers, especially if those people are dedicated and can handle themselves. Enter your dream team, aka your Real Estate Agent, Broker/Bank, Home Inspector, and Lawyer. Here’s the tip –  find yourself an amazing Real Estate Agent and they will have a portfolio of those above-listed MVPs to give to you freely. This will ensure nothing scary will happen as you close on one of the biggest deals of your life. 

 

Zombie movies are fantastic at reminding us to double-check our actions. If you don’t, you might get bitten. This is no different when it comes to getting Pre-Approved. You might think you know your finances, and you might think you know what you would be approved for because you used an online calculator, but until you double-check the numbers with a bank or broker you won’t have the security you need to survive in the real (estate) world. Please trust me when I say this step is key to making sure buying a home is as smooth as possible.

 

Cue the T-rex. They can’t see you if you don’t move. Similarly, with home buying, you never want to make any sudden, new life decisions that will affect your finances. New purchases, jobs, or moving money will cause major hiccups in closing. Again and again, I’ve seen clients disappointed by purchasing before closing.
